3/21/2024 0 Comments Tji roof rafter span table![]() ![]() With that large a dormer you are have gotten away from the gabled roof rafter/ridgeboard system with its "kick" that I mentioned earlier though you will still have that in certain locations away from the shed dormer. Looks like you need someone with knowledge to layout and size the roof framing that is required with a dormer that size (ridge beams, king trusses, posts, ect). If that is still the case the more I look at it the more it looks like it is not for the do-it-yourselfer to layout and size the roof. I didn't pick-up on the fact that you are going with the optional dormer shown and didn't realize the eave of the other gabled roof is at a different height than the main building - what else is new - lol. If you do not know what intumescent fireproofing is, it is expensive compared to "high temp" RTV silicone.Ĭheck local codes for additional requirements. All mechanical, plumbing and electrical penetrations must be sealed. My city requires 5/8" type X drywall on the bottom of floor trusses in a basement for fire code. Others have no additional considerations. Others require 5/8" type X drywall on both sides of the web. Some places around here will not allow TJI floor construction at all. Lots of different building codes and interpretations. They are there to contain the blaze and keep it from spreading. Some local fire departments will not enter a TJI or truss framed structure if danger to human life within the structure does not exist. These engineering marvels will span great distances compared to plain lumber, but the only thing holding them together is glue and metal splice plates.Ĭonventionally framed floors will stand for a virtual eternity in a fire compared to an unprotected truss or TJI floor. ![]() ![]() The big issue with I Joists and trusses is fire resistance. ![]()
